How do I restore grass in my garden after being overgrown for months?

Hi! I've been incredibly lazy and have left my garden in a terrible state over the last 6 months or so, and recently had in a gardener to cut back the weeds and sort out the lawn. It's in a really really bad state, bumpy, dark brown grass/hay.

I was wondering how to restore the garden to its original green and fresh state. We're moving out of the house in about 6/7 weeks so would like to make sure it's healthy before then.

Thanks!

to restore.. steps...

1) water it.. almost flood it so ground is soft

2) if its long grass.. cut it.. short grass.. let it grow

3) fertilize it ALOT!

4) dig up where you want to put plants

5) put it in..

6) dont over do all these
Reply:If it is still long mow on the highest settin on the lawn mower and then over the week gradually reduce the height to it's normal level.

Give the lawn a good lawn fertilizer such as Shirley's No 17 and water deeply often. Mow a bit higher than normal to allow plenty of leaf growth. This always looks lush and covers some of the unevenness.

Lawns love water and food, a regular mowing will get it even again.
Reply:Replace all the sod. It is all you can do short of watering it frequently and hoping it will come back.
