Does anyone know what was wrong with zach braffs character in garden state the movie?

i know his mom was a parapeligic and all but did he have a disease like bipolar disorder or anything specific?

He was a guilt-ridden drug addict because he thought it was his fault that his mother was in a wheel chair (his father led him to believe this).
Reply:He didn't have anything specific. Just guessing he might have been depressed, frusterated, and insecure but that's observation not a known fact.
Reply:He had NOTHING wrong with him. He pushed his mom out of frustration when he was really young and she accidentally broke her neck on the corner of the kitchen counter (the dishwasher door fell open on its own and she tripped on it).


The father and psychiatrist assumed he had serious mental problems so he prescibed him tons of anti-depressant like medications. The result was a man who was completely numb to ANY of his emotions.


Oh, and by the way.....GREAT movie!!!!!!
