Garden State's (New Jersey) ban on self-service pumps?

How come you can't pump your own gas?

Garden State's (New Jersey) ban on self-service pumps?
It's been that way forever, and they don't want it to change. New Jersey passed the law making it illegal to pump your own gas in 1949. At the time, legislators felt it was too dangerous to have untrained people dispensing such a flammable liquid.

The last time they tried to allow self serve, there was a revolt. (Check out the link.) People in NJ love their full service, and it provides a few extra jobs.

No one in NJ tips for full service.
Reply:because NJ historically has the lowest gas price,(tons of refineries in NJ) and it creates couple jobs.

that's why some of my friends coming up from NJ doesn't know how to pump at first.

well tipping is at your discretion, but normally i give them a dollar when using full service, which i rarely use, cuz self service is legal in Connecticut and 48 other states.
