In your opinion, what’s the cleanest dump in the US?

I have traveled across the country, investigating the cleanliness of US city dumps. My findings indicate that Newark, New Jersey and the South Junction Philadelphia dumps are the most tidy. The study measures the amount of dirt residue per thousand parts of clean air. The worst, by far, is Atlantic City. It is triple that of it’s Garden State counterpart. Anybody else have opinions about this?

In your opinion, what’s the cleanest dump in the US?
Although I have not visited dumps across the US, I do believe that it is important to maintain our waste, so kudos to you for actually spending time doing those observations.

How can i convince my dad?

I really want to go to Garden State Plaza mall in New Jersey because i heard its a good mall and im meeting up with a friend, but its an hour and 45 minutes away. SO my dad thinks we should go to Cherry Hill Mall because its only 30 minutes away. What can i say or do to my dad to get him to give in to going to Garden State Plaza?

How can i convince my dad?
You drive an hour and 45 minutes to hang out at a freakin' mall?
Reply:I wish I could help, but I never had any luck getting my dad to let me do things. After a while, I stopped asking and just started doing (but you should ask).
Reply:Follow his decision and don't press hiim too hard. At the same time though do extra chores and do other things to prove to him your responsible enough to go that far away! Good Luck!
Reply:Tell him it's the only thing you will ask for for the rest of the year, throw in the puppy eyes and drop a single tear.... good luck
Reply:Well if you can drive, then just go and don't tell him. If you can't drive, then sit down and try to have a mature talk with him. Just say something like "I would really love to go to this mall, can you drive us when its a good time for you?". Just try to make him understand why you want to go so bad.
Reply:I think you should convince him go to the mall you want cuz it sounds more fun
Reply:Tell dad , Garden State Mall has so much more than Cherry Hill.Tell him you are only going to ask him for this once , after that , you wont ask again.

If your not from NY state or city, why do you think NY is a great place?

I have been to the city including, the bronxs, Brooklyn, Queens, and allthe other areas. There are only a few reasions to go there.

Shea

Madesion square garden

Macys Thanksgiving day Parade

and The ball (New years)

I live on the island in huntington and belive that new york city is a bunch of drunk drivers and dirty streets. Almost as dirty as NJ.

If your not from NY state or city, why do you think NY is a great place?
well it's not the greatist place in the world, it is just mostly famous for its history and tourism... at least that's what I think
Reply:Some are just not up to the challenge of living in New York....

You obviously don't know where to find entertainment and seem like a tourist(don't take any offense). I am 19 and have traveled around but NYC is the only place that I know that at 3AM I can go out and find something to do and somewhere to go.
Reply:I grew up in a small PA town and I love NYC because theres so much opportunity there. Thats why I moved here.
Reply:I'm from New York City and there is a lot of great places to go to and things to do, you just have to know where. Obviously, you don't know where all these places are, the places you've mentioned makes you sound like a tourist, and I bet tourist would find more great reasons and great places to go to here. If there is only a few reasons to visit here, why would so many people from around the world come and love visiting New York?
Reply:Its a fabulous city! So many wonderful things to do, people to see, places to go! NYC has Great culture, food, entertainment, shopping, nightlife... (including in the other boroughs) If you dont think NYC is great, its because you haven't taken the time to find out all it has to offer..I live 40 min from LA, but I'd happily hop on a plane to NYC as first choice ANYDAY

What is the quickest route to get to Roseland, NJ from Hackensack, NJ?

I need to get to Roseland, NJ from Hackensack, NJ. The closest highways to me are Route 4, Garden State Parkway, Route 46 and Route 80

What is the quickest route to get to Roseland, NJ from Hackensack, NJ?
I-80 west to the Garden State Parkway south to I-280 West to either Laurel Ave (Exit 6), Livingston Ave. (Exit 5) or Eisenhower Parkway (Exit 4) depending where in Roseland.
Reply:It is only about 19 1/2miles and should only take you half an hour driving time.

There are specific direction at this link:

Reply:I looked it up on mapquest and from the center of Roseland to the center of Hackensack it showed that you would take Route 80... you can look it up in mapquest with specific addresses and it might give you a better route...

Horse Hoof trimmings in the garden - Answer found!?

Im actually unable to answer my own question but I wanted to let you all know I found the answer.

Jerry Baker has this book "Old-Time Gardening Wisdom" (highly recommend this book. Very insightful) and it states in there that horse hooves were added to the garden (soaked and then used to water) as a fertilizer. It says they were the "best". Having horses and an endless supply of trimmings, I'm going to try it.

Thanks

Horse Hoof trimmings in the garden - Answer found!?
You can use horse hooves but it's time consuming for them to break down %26amp; get the nutriants out. Better if you use horse manure takes less time to soak %26amp; has far better nutriants %26amp; great fertilizer. Take dried manure %26amp; soak it, then water your garden. We mix the manure that we collect from mucking stalls or a manure pile directly into the soil in our flower %26amp; vegetable gardens. The growth is amazing!
Reply:Horse hoofs are made of keratin. It eventually works as plant food because it provides nitrogen and sulphur, but you'll get faster results if you use unflavored gelatin (not made from horse's hoofs, btw). Different substance, same benefits, doesn't require as much breaking down.

If you want to use the hoof trimmings, though, you might try putting them in your compost heap first.
Reply:How interesting! I've never heard of that before. If I used my horse hoof trimmings in my garden though, I'd have some disappointed dogs! They love them!

I wrote down your book suggestion, sounds like a good read.
Reply:Are you a horses hoof?

Why do peopl make fun of New Jersey?

Is it really "The Garden State" or is it as people say "The Garbage State" or "The Toxic State". Why do people make fun of the place? Is it really that bad? Most people who make fun of it are New Yorkers - is NY very close to NJ? Do they know first hand?

Why do peopl make fun of New Jersey?
There is a stretch of New Jersey on the NJ Turnpike, where all the oil refineries are. Think Port Aurthur,Tx or Torrence, Ca.

Else, the state has suburban area's and rural area's. Most of the state is not like what people think.

It has the highest, per capita income than any other state. And the highest per capita amount of scientists than any other state.
Reply:Everyone makes fun of New Jersey b/c they think it is so dirty. When you fly in to Newark, NJ Airport, you will see a lot of oil refinieries and old buildings and the area is pretty much awful. So that tends to be people's stereotype of the state. Yes, NJ and NY border each other. Plus most of the major cities in NJ are old, not very safe, and unappealing. But the same can be said for NY state.

However, most sections of NJ are really nice...very suburban, nice houses and yards. Many sections along the coast are beautiful. In reality, NJ is one of the most expensive states to live in due to housing costs, great location, and property tax. You still have a home but can get into the city easily for work or drive down to shore for weekend. It has many advantages compared to living in NY. It is the most densely populated state, so obviously people do want to live here. Southern Jersey has much more crops and stuff.
Reply:It's a border "war". New Jerseyeans make fun of New Yorkers too...wondering if they have to carry a gun to visit NYC, the "drug supermarket" (since a lot of NJ cars used to "visit" Washington Heights...off the GWB, for "things".

But on the other side, while there are parts of NJ that are actually nice (the Jersey Shore, Newport section of Jersey City, Sussex County (NW NJ), Cape May) you often get the "stereotype" as you see in the opening credits of "The Sopranos" with TONS of refineries (NJ Turnpike between exits 13 %26amp; 12), areas that once did serve as toxic dumps (right off the Pulaski Skyway near Newark was one that REAKED of bad odors.) And yes, with the exception of the Newport section of Jersey City, New Jersey cities tend to be bad and rundown (Newark...though the Ironbound section is okay, Paterson, Camden..to which I wouldn't go through there DURING THE DAY!)

There are other "Jersey Jokes" as well. Such as when someone says they are from New Jersey, people reply "What exit?" since you have TONS of highways in NJ that all have exit numbers on them. Plus on the main routes, the only way you can make a left is to make a RIGHT since "Jersey Dividers" are VERY limited access and block off roads, until you find a sign where you can turn onto a street, or "U" turn.

The GOOD thing about NJ that New Yorkers do love! Gas prices are about 35c cheaper to the gallon and THE ATTENDANT FILLS IT UP FOR YOU (state law)
Reply:I like Joesy.
Reply:It's traditional to make fun of joisey. NYers are tough. NYers enjoy living on top of each other. NYers like paying high taxes. NYers love to lug their laundry to the laundromat so they can socialize. NYers love to shlep their groceries up 5 flights of stairs in the shopping cart. Young NYers areproud of the fact that they can live with 5 room mates in a studio apt. NYers with a view of the hudson love to look at the left bank of the hudson (aka jersey)

Pity the poor people in jersey who have a dishwasher, washer/dryer in their apts/homes. Jerseyites have parking spots and don't have to pay hundreds of dollars a month to rent a spot. Jerseyites get a view of NYC. Jerseyites have a shorter commute into manhatan then NYers in queens or on the island. Jerseyites have cheaper gas prices and are NOT ALLOWED to fill their own cars, we are forced to sit in the car and let the gas attendant fill the car for us.
Reply:Is just that. That's what we New Yorkers called.

Who else thinks there should be an Interstate freeway stretching from New York to Savannah?

One along the Atlantic Coast, parallel to 95, running through NYC, Atlantic City, Jersey Shore (they can use Garden State Pkwy in NJ), Ocean City, Virginia Beach/Norfolk, Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Savannah.

Who else thinks there should be an Interstate freeway stretching from New York to Savannah?
Why ruin the coast with an interstate? If you want to travel fast, take I95. If you want to sightsee, take the blue highways. Half the fun of that kind of travel is seeing the towns you go through, rather than around.
Reply:No more roads! Move people, not vehicles.
Reply:yes honey, so you can get to me faster.
Reply:Evan, love the idea and it should be called GWTW Highway

(Gone With The Wind Highway).

Happy motoring!
Reply:Heck yes!

One thing I noticed, is that there is no good way to drive from Michigan to Myrtle Beach! And I love that place! It took someone I know 18 hours to drive there! Good heavens! Taking all kinds of different routes along the way. An interstate down the coastline there would be perfect.

What movie utilized a great soundtrack?

In my opinion, Garden State was a really good movie, but it was definitely enhanced by the soundtrack. Coldplay's "Don't Panic" at the start was a great selection. Then there was the Shins tracks. There were some bands I never heard of, but the music fit well. The best moment was slow motion walking to Thievery Corporation's "Lebanese Blonde". The music made the film better. I think Braff won the Grammy for best film soundtrack. So that's my pick.

What is your pick? Best soundtrack to a film?

walk the line was AMAZING.
Reply:I like the soundtrack to Reservoir Dogs.

DIRTY DANCING ULTIMATE SOUNDTRACK !!!

Love the music..love the film...especially the last track of the CD (Time of my life!)

xxxxxx
Reply:i say THE SOUND OF MUSIC starring julie andrews, an old classic but very lovely and family oriented
Reply:Garden State definitely was a great soundtrack.

My 3 favorites are: Pulp Fiction, Empire Records and Reality Bites
Reply:i'd say the rock with Sean connery and nicolas cage

i mean the music by Hans Zimmer is GREAT!!

and also Center Stage is great too

i forgot to add the lion king and Spirit
Reply:the big chill you can't lose with motown that was a great soundtrack
Reply:Hustle %26amp; Flow

The Crow

And another one that I can't think of right now. But I remember thinking what an awesome soundtrack it was and that we should buy it.
Reply:WIfe - Dirty Dancing.

i like Forest Gump - All the music i grow up listening to.
Reply:"O Brother, Where art Thou?" used real songs from Depression era (as well as some new ones)

"Last of the Mohicans" -- some new, some old

"Master %26amp; Commander" -- great classical pieces

"O Lucky Man" -- all original by Alan Price, ex-Animals.
Reply:Wim Wenders is a master director, and he has an outstanding ear:

Himmel über Berlin (aka "Wings of Desire")

Until the End of the World

Koyaanisqatsi can not be ignored: The film is the soundtrack is the film is the soundtrack is the film... also, the beginning of Koyaanisqatsi was the only "sound" my dog ever strongly reacted to... he came into the room from whereever he was, went right to the TV, stared at it a bit, sniffed, watched it some more, I called him next to me, and he came and watched for a bit, but left when the pace started picking up. The very first notes, there in the silo, always captured his attention...

Pi

You know, π: 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419...

Pi was *awesome*

And Kubrick. Clockwork Orange and 2001 spring first to mind, but Full Metal Jacket was all up in there, too.

...which reminds me... Apocalypse Now

and OMG how could I forget:

Matewan

!!!!

Yes, Matewan. (pronounced mate - wahn)

If you're looking to expand your soundtrack library, Pi, Himmel über Berlin, Koyaanisqatsi, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, and Matewan are definite must-haves!
Reply:That's funny...based on your subject line, I was going to pick "Garden State"...and then I saw that you already picked that one!

I would also have to add "Saturday Night Fever" to that list. The songs work beautifully in the context of the movie, but you can also enjoy the songs independently of it.
Reply:Not that it is the best film created but let's face it - Top Gun would be nothing without it's soundtrack.

Garden State is by far the best soundtrack to go with a film- it's almost as if they planned the movie around the music.
Reply:My favourites ( I love it when the Soundtrack makes the movie feel better, enhances the mood without letting you realize that you were listening to some music in the background):

1. Les Choriste (The Chorus)

2. Pirates of the caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

3. Forrest Gump

I forgot to add:

4. Batman Begins

5. The Lion King

and as the first person suggested, my wife also thinks that Dirty Dancing has the best soundtrack ever.
Reply:For classical soundtracks, definitely the original Star Wars trilogy by John Williams, the master of movie scores.

For popular music, I would say Forrest Gump and Jerry Maguire both did a really good job of picking good songs that went with the movie.

Would more mass transit reduce carbon emissions?

I feel more buses and trains that are more frrequent and much more available would reduce the output by cars 10 fold. In NJ alone....a train that ran along the Garden State Parkway to shore points would reduce summer congestion and emissions many times over. What do you think?

Would more mass transit reduce carbon emissions?
public transportation is a great way to reduce carbon emissions, but a transit system based solely on buses is not the way to do it. One, buses have a stigma of being unclean, and only serving those who depend on it to get around. A vast transportation system with rail as the main way of getting around is the best way at combatting this. Rail is used across socio-economic lines by both the rich and the poor. Two, why would anyone who has a car want to use the bus that uses the same infrastructure as cars yet is considerably slower and not that much cheaper. By creating rail you create a separate infrastructure that is able to bypass road congestion and will be used by many more people so carbon emissions can be minimized...buses should only complement a rail network
Reply:Great answer, an electric train would further this effort... NJTransit DOES run a line along the Shore from Hoboken/Newark Penn Station all the way to A.C. Report Abuse

Reply:I'm sure it would work, but I think most people like the convenience of having their own personal transportation.
Reply:the trick is to get people on the thing in the first place.

SCAM. DON'T LISTEN!
Reply:Eerie ...................... no

Scam ............................... YES!!!!

Do you even subscribe to the magazine? Did you enter the contest? This just screams of a scam!!
Reply:Sounds like Publishers Clearing House. You don't get anything for nothing so don't go planning on receiving any money.
Reply:Oh wow. I have never heard of this. The best rule is to trust your instincts. I think you're right on with thinking it's a scam.

If you don't remember specifically entering a contest with BHG, then it's more than likely a scam. Plus the fact that they said they are sending you stuff like magazines to try and that you are a "preferred customer" of a credit card really sounds like they will eventually try to sell you something. The fact that they had your name and address probably means they bought your name from that credit card company.

I would stay away from this type of thing. If you had entered something from BHG and just not remembered they would never say they were sending you magazines to try. They would never mention another business. You are right that they would have all the information you asked for including the details of the prize. They would have been up front on how they got your name (they would have told you you entered). In fact, they would be more than happy to send you proof of your entry and give you proof of who they are. Plus they would probably give their name and some sort of contact number. I work for a company that sometimes runs contests and when we call our winners, we always start by giving our real name and our direct line so they know we are really the company we say we are. We always have the prize information because, after all, we ran the contest.

Do all victorias secret stores sell clothes from the PINK line?

does the one in the Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, NJ sell PINK sweatpants?

Do all victorias secret stores sell clothes from the PINK line?
theres two types of Victorias secret. Theres the regular store (that sells bras/panties) then theres Victorias Secret Pink (they sell clothes). They are two different stores. Regular victorias secret sells PINK stuff, but its like thongs and underwear from PINK. The Pink store sells all the sweatpants and clothes. So i would just visit the mall, and see if they have the pink store. If not just order offline!

Hope i helped u!!

My lease states i share the garden with downstairs, their lease makes no mention of the garden, what do i do?

when i bought the property i was told it was a private garden, upon seeing the lease i questioned it and was told that the downstairs lease makes no mention of the garden, so they have no rights over it.

Who do i approach to get the leases changed so they don't contradict each other, as i want to sell but don't want to mislead anyone like i was, is it the freeholders responsibility?

My lease states i share the garden with downstairs, their lease makes no mention of the garden, what do i do?
The freeholder (or his solicitor) is the person to sort this out. If no joy, try contacting the Leasehold Advisory Service (in London, google them) who were set up by the government to give free legal advice on all aspects of Leasehold law. Good Luck
Reply:depends on the law of the place the house is in. best is to contact a local real estate lawyer.
Reply:Your question is ambiguous. First you say you lease the property then you talk about when you bought the property. Are you renting or buying? Do you know?

This sounds like a multifamily dwelling in either case condo or similar. The grounds of a condo building are common areas shared by all residents. Read the by-laws.

Can I erect a poster in my garden relating to a neighbour?

My neighbour has taken down his house sign therefore when a debt collector or bayliff calls its always at my property, enquiring where my neighbour can be found. Can I by law erect a poster that states:ALL BAYLIFFS %26amp; DEBT COLLECTORS "THE COTTAGE" IS THAT WAY,WITH AN ARROW POINTING TOWARDS HIS PROPERTY.

PS. The local Police do not want to know.

Can I erect a poster in my garden relating to a neighbour?
Hi

Forget the bailiff and debt collector bit, just write on it the directions to the cottage.

You will have no come back then provided the sign is within local planning regulations.
Reply:Naturally the police will not want to know, its a civil matter, and they are too busy down the road with the speed trap guns collecting for the Chief Con tables pension fund.

Any sign that is proved as an untruth could get you sued. However, where you get the name of the companies that come knocking, and address, write to them explaining the situation, and in your letter, simply say "to the best of my knowledge the person you seek lives next door at number **, but I am not totally certain of this".

In addition, get the names of the people the door knockers represent, be it the local Council, a bank, or whatever, and write to them also, placing before them the grief this is giving you, and where it does not stop, you will seriously consider taking legal action to sue them for harassment.

One other thing, and not knowing the relationship you might have with your neighbour, as he may clearly be in trouble, have you considered knocking n his door and asking f he needs help.
Reply:You can erect a temporary sign which says anything (lawful, that is). You'll get the planning people on your back if it's anything but temporary.

Theoretically, what you say could be libellous; but I doubt you need worry about that.

A less controversial sign might say (perhasp located at your front door)

"To whom it may concern: Mr X does not reside here. He resides at 'The Cottage' which can be found 100 yards further down to your left" (or whatever).

Whilst the sign you are suggesting may not be actually unlawful, it is rather inviting a proverbial brick through the window?

I had the same problem with my old landlord who changed the number of his house from 220 to 220b. There was no 220a and it was a semi-detached house.
Reply:Why don't you just put a sign on your door that says, if you are looking for so and so they live next door. I have deliveries for people who live a street away from me and they have the same number has me and the streets are so complicated they think my street is the other street and so they constantly knock my door, even late at night for take away food deliveries. I'm sick of it as well. Good luck!

Why are so many people careless drivers?

ok so i was in the car with my dad driving to khols to pick up some clothes. i live in nj and we were driving on the garden state parkway. someone merged without warning right in front of my dad and stopped short. i almost went flying bc he slammed too hard on the brakes. then later when we were going home another car went around my dad and he went bumper to bumper almost and then again stopped short (different person btw). but i mean, are all highways this bad? i mean twice in one day for gosh sake and this happened many times before on the parkway.why are ppl this careless?

Why are so many people careless drivers?
Because people are idiots. They rush everywhere and think "okay, I might hurt myself but whats the big deal", some people can admit being carless may involve them to become hurt but very few carless drives admit that they might hurt someone other then themselves
Reply:becuase people feel they gotta rush around. but when they get them selves or someone else killed hope they feel good about them selves. and working is not a reason just a lame excuse. also manuevers like that are considered wreckless driving. with fairly hefty fines in most states.
Reply:they do work
Reply:You can deal with them by driving defensively, and you must.
Reply:NJ....what else is there to say?
Reply:Cell Phones, More people = More distractions, more construction = more traffic jams, Dense population = Less time to react...
Reply:Why are they careless livers? Lack of consciousness, perhaps.

I live in Garden City, SC. Check out the website below. Call the courthouse in Surfside Beach, and they'll be able to tell you how to go about doing this. Garden City Beach doesn't have it's own mailing zipcode, so that's why sometimes you'll see Murrells Inlet which 29576....it's the same thing. GC is beautiful. Check out the Garden City Pier.....It's on Atlantic Avenue.

States may have different laws, so you might want to check into it. Try visiting this website for more information. http://usmarriagelaws.com/search/united_...
Reply:Make a phone to the County Clerk in Garden City - they will give you all the answers. You should be able to find the number fairly easy on the net. Good luck, and congratulations!
Reply:Just call the county office. State laws regarding licenses do vary. SC is very lenient. That's why so many people go to York, and Myrtle Beach. I think there is a 24 hour wait after you purchase the license. Take along your birth certificates. Happy wishes.

My backyard is overgrown. What should I do to get the yard in a manageable state?

I'm going to hack it down, but I'm thinking in terms of getting it manageable for the long-term. I imagine tilling it, perhaps treating it for weeds somehow. Anything kind of systematic approach to such a task would be appreciated. That is, if there's something like "the three basics of gardening," I'd like to hear it. Thanks.

My backyard is overgrown. What should I do to get the yard in a manageable state?
Go to the livestock auction %26amp; buy a Young goat.Stake him out thru til mid-summer.Then take him back to the auction. You'll get more than you paid for her%26amp; while she is clearing the brush, she's fertilizing.Keeoing her til mid summer gives most of the weeds seed stock a chance to sprout(goats love sprouts) %26amp; goats are in bigger demand during BBQ season
Reply:ROUNDUP IT ALL. IN A FEW DAYS IT WILL ALL BE DEAD. REMOVE ALL VEGITATION AND THEN IN 6 WEEKS YOU CAN REPLANT IT WITH ANYTHING YOU NEED. WAIT THE SIX WEEKS B-4 REPLANTING!
Reply:Have you considered fire?
Reply:First, till up all of the ground, removing the top layer of vegetation and dirt. Even out the ground so that it's ready for resodding. Do not apply any chemicals at this point, because anything that would prevent future weeds from germinating would also keep new grass from growing as well.

Second, sod with whatever grass that you prefer and that is suggested for your climate and weather. If you can find a drought-resistant grass that you like, use that.

Third, fertilize immediately with a "weed and feed" that is suggested for the type of grass that you chose. Make sure that you read the label! Weedkillers that are made for bahia or bermuda will kill St. Augustine. If you're not sure, ask someone knowledgable. Put your lawn on a regular schedule for future applications of the "weed and feed" that works for you.

That should give you a nice lawn where you had wilderness before.
Reply:Check out your local rental place to see what they have for your size yard. I have 2 acres and have had to fight back the wilderness several times. Having the right equipment to do the job makes a huge difference. We use a tractor with a blade to cut the earth and regrade. Definitely need to do something like tilling or you will be fighting it every summer here on out. Don't worry about taking too much out. You can alway plant something in it's place. If its ugly or diseased it goes. (Burn or dispose of the diseases parts or you'll have other plants suffering.) Decide on which trees you are going to cut. Don't think about the space you have now between the trunks -think of how it'll look in 5-10 years. Mulch and stepstones make it easy to enjoy quickly after the work is done.

Good luck!

Reply:I just cleared off an area of about 1 acre last spring and planted St. Augustine. I tilled up all the ground with a rented tiller and then went through and removed all the weeds. Those darn weeds leave a lot of seeds in the ground though and can grow with just about zero water.

About August or so the weeds starting coming back. I think the only way is to till it and then you have to spot pull the weeds as they start to grow back. I would guess if you sprayed the whole lot with round-up you would just spend a ton of money and then probably only the weeds would be able to grow back for some time.

Goats do work though, they'll even eat small trees down to a nub. Of course they also eat roses and Texas privet and even the rope I used as a lanyard.
Reply:I would outsource it. Once they have brought it in a manageable state, I would take over and maintain it myself. Otherwise it is a lot of work.

What can I legally do to prevent kids from climbing over my garden wall?

I have a real problem with the kids who use the park behind me. They keep climbing the wall and kicking their footballs over several times a day. They've knocked my two year old son off his slide, ruined plants, and covered my washing in mud from their footballs. But when I ask them to stop they get cheeky and answer me back. The parents never supervise them, and when I complain about it they take no notice. Some of these kids are as young as 3 or as old as 21. The park has a sign stating that it is for supervised under 14's only, and ball games are not allowed (because houses surround it on all sides). I wouldn't be bothered if it was the only place they could play football safely, but there's a football club and large park just a few minutes walk away (4 pitches that barely get used for some odd reason)! My son and I were poorly for 3 months and the kids were constantly staring at us through the windows, climbing over to collect their balls and knocking for stuff they'd thrown over!

What can I legally do to prevent kids from climbing over my garden wall?
No problem, about 10 feet of razor wire should do the trick. Look on the internet - should only cost you about $25.
Reply:I have a similar problem. Although I have only been here for 6 months, I have recently found out that 4 residents have moved out in quick succession. Next to my house we have large grass field with large trees on the far side. The older kids cant play football down that end so they use my gable end as a net. I have come out constantly to move them on with an open mind to their plight. I reason with them that I know they have no alternative. They play across now but when the older, 18 to 21 years olds come round, with drinks for all! the problem arises ten-fold.

I have now fitted carpet-gripper along the top of my fence, with another row along the gable end about the height of a football. I have also planted 4 climbing roses that I am going to leave to grow wild and hopefully spread10 feet or more away from my boundary wall.

Never give up though and persevere.
Reply:im very sorry about the total *** hole above. andrew doesnt know what he is talking abot... razor wire, do it. it works.
Reply:you could always get a dog nobody will jump over then or get some of that spiky plastic stuff which you nail to the top of the fence
Reply:a low level electric fence with well placed signs stating caution electric fence....
Reply:There is a tar or oil that you can buy to paint the top of your wall, it covers the persons clothes in it if they try to climb the wall.

The broken glass idea is illegal in the UK
Reply:Get your local community policeman around (You can find out who it is by phoning your local police station.)

Explain the situation to him/her - just as you have on here - and ask for their help/advice.

They will be able to give you advice and possibly even assistance to make your space more secure.

The camera idea that someone else had is also very good thinking in the meantime!!
Reply:most hardware stores sell either razorwire or plastic spike strips that should stop climbers. A sign reading 'all footballs that land on this property will be punctured' should make them think twice. Legally, if they kick a football onto your property and you do have such signs, they have accepted this as a condition of kicking the ball onto your property! Brilliant!
Reply:I'd suggest razor wire along the top of the fence. Remember to post a sign saying razor wire is in use, so you don't get sued for negligence.
Reply:Get in their faces with a camera when they come over and begin snapping photos with the flash on over and over and over and over. Tell them you are giving the photos to the police. Then give the photos to the police. And, if you know any of their parents, give them some of the photos.
Reply:just cover top of your wall with thick axle grease.
Reply:There isn't much you can do in the UK , however methods like anti vandal paint or thick auto motive grease spread on the fence top should put a stop to them climbing over. Also I would contact your local police station and ask for a home visit from their community officer for your area and explain to him everything that's happening and ask for help and advice from him or her. After that I would go to your local council and make enquiries about having an ASBO served on these louts. (Anti Social Behaviour Order). I agree with the rose bush idea as well although this will take some time . Can you borrow a large noisy dog from anyone for a few days over a weekend maybe. Sorry I cant be of more use.
Reply:I can see this is a real problem. A higher fence is one answer but so obvious you must have considered that already. Another practical option is a big fierce (looking) dog. If no dog, get a sign saying beware of the dog.

Legally, your options are limited. You can sue the older ones and the parents of the younger ones for civil trespass - at least in theory - but that's a poor choice. If they damage things you can ask the police to charge them with aggravated trespass, a criminal offence. You can ask the local authority/police to impose an Asbo on the repeated offenders - if you can i.d. them.

If the park is owned by the council (or any identifiable owner), you can require them to erect a higher fence to abate a nuisance on their land or in extremis, close the park altogether. You'd need to consult a solicitor on these options to work out the best way to approach it.
Reply:Get antistatic spray and spray it on the top of the wall, this stuff works wonders or else, if you live in England you can apply for an ASBO.
Reply:have you ever watched the movie THE SAND LOT? great old movie ! but i suppose you dont want a rather large dog. best bet is elec. fence then just be sure to post signs you dont need a lawsuit!
Reply:Grow a hedge of roses, burberis or pyracantha (spelling?) along the wall. That'll soon stop them jumping over it.
Reply:Anything Designed to injure could be considered a "Man Trap" so be very careful. Razor Wire is out of the Question. Barbed Wire would be OK, but it must be attached to your side of the wall and must not be accessible from the "Public" Side. Therefore you are more likely to end up with Kids knocking to get out of your Garden! The Best option is "Anti-Vandal Grease" or a version of. You can buy this from B%26amp;Q in a Tin. Just Smear it Nice and Thick on the top. After a couple of times over the wall, their mothers will ground them for life. (Its Black, Very Sticky and Impossible to remove from clothing). Its also LEGAL.
Reply:build a brick wall and/or put barb wire around it! hahaha
Reply:legally you cant put anything unatural on the top of your wall wire or glass etc you can put trellis studded to the wall to raise its height up to two meters in u.k or better get some wild rose bushes plant them against the wall this is not regarded as hedging and will stop them coming over as it grows up and over the wall.
Reply:Reading that has angered me beyond belief, I'd get so mad! I don't know if it's legal, but I've seen many houses around here with it, so there obviously isn't a problem with it...it's your house, and if people don't want to get hurt, then they shouldn't be climbing up your walls!! Get some cement, paste it along the top of your wall, then get some thick broken glass and securely fit it in. Make sure you supervise the wall until it's dry and set, because bits could fall into your garden etc.
Reply:get a really nasty viscous dog and chain him near the wall .but put a warning sign up
Reply:Use Razor wire on top of your wall or buy a big dog.
Reply:Electric Fence
Reply:How about you stop being such a tightwad and buy a dryer so your clothes don't get muddy, take your kid to the park, and stop complaining.

How much paperwork is there in using custom motorcycles?

have you ever seen the movie garden state where he uses a motorcycle attached with a sideseater? I think its kinda cool and im curious if it will be legal if I try and drive something like that on public roads.

with all these gas prices especially... i think it would be a fun idea, I know phillipines has been doing it for years

How much paperwork is there in using custom motorcycles?
A bunch of paperwork is involved like anything that involves the government. IF you want to drive a custom built motorcycle that does not have a title then your going to have to get it inspected through the D.M.V. for road worthiness, I am pretty sure that you will need an inspection from a certified mechanic as to the mechanical portion of the bike as well. I went through this in Arizona with a salvage bike that I wanted to have the "salvage" portion removed from the title. It was a hassle and I probably would not want to do it again.
Reply:Are you calling a sidecar custom or a bike you built yourself

You can get a sidecar for most Major bikes no biggie but if a custom "Bike" an act of congress in some states

On average how many salads are served at Olive Garden in one day?

I'm guessing there are about 50 - 75 tables in the Olive Garden we were in last night. It is located in State College PA. I was just curious if anyone could tell me how many salads are served a day on average. My guess was if every table gets a salad at lunch and dinner that's roughly 150. But I know most tables get more than one and of course you have the people who eat between dinner and supper. AND there are people moving through there all day long. I'm thinking roughly 500 or more but I wondered if anyone could really give me a real answer. I figured they have just one or two people who are just there to make salads. Thanks!!

On average how many salads are served at Olive Garden in one day?
One per person and I would say 1 out of every 10 people don't eat a salad. I think on a Fri or Sat I would think I would Be about 300
Reply:OUR OLIVE GARDEN JUST SITS A BIG BOWL OF SALAD ON THE TABLE FOR EVERYONE, SALAD IS SERVED WITH EVERY MEAL AT EVERY TABLE WITH FREE REFILLS ON IT.

I love Persian violets and would like to grow them in my garden.?

I see that they are grown mostly in the southern states. does anyone know of a hardy variety that would do well further north in Pennsylvania. Specifically zone 5-6?

I love Persian violets and would like to grow them in my garden.?
Hi,

Try C. hederfolium and C. coum ... I've also heard good things about C. cilicium - these are reported to work in zone 5 quite well, so I would think they'd perform nicely for you!

Goodluck!

What plants or flowers can I plant in August in Washington state?

I have a bed of good soil that is 2x20 ft long at the end of my driveway and I want to plant something in it! But i don't know too much about gardening. Please answer seriously! Thank you.

What plants or flowers can I plant in August in Washington state?
Eastern or western WA? It would make a difference!

I'd go with chrysanthemums and asters. Both are considered to be autumn bloomers.

Your best investment for gardening advice is buying a copy of the Sunset Western Garden Book, put out by Sunset magazine. It has everything you'd ever need to know about gardening west of the Rockies.

Where can I get a bamboo fountain like the one in the snowy garden in Kill Bill?

Remember that fountain that moves, pouring water from a piece of bamboo as the snow falls? I'm in the States, I've checked e-bay and other internet searches. It's probably not hard to make, but I have no skill in that area.

Do people selling at local farmers' markets have to get a license from either the state or federal government?

Are there different regulations for selling fruits and vegetables, potted perennial garden plants, shrubs, and seeds?

Or is selling at a farmers' market pretty much of a free market, with minimal regulation?

Do people selling at local farmers' markets have to get a license from either the state or federal government?
depends on what you are selling. if you are claiming organic you need to have licensing from the USDA. To sell certain prepared foods you need licensing from county or state health dept. To sell meat the meat must be slaughtered in a state inspected or USDA inspected facility.

To sell raw produce grown on your farm you need no license what so ever (though that may well change in the near future with GAP regulations)
Reply:Usually not, I never needed one in our Massachusetts community, but all is goverened by local legislation at town or county level. Government usually leaves the farmer alone where possible lest they turn the necessity of eating into a voter nightmare when it comes to keeping a town position in local government.
Reply:No, farmers do not usually have to get a license (though things can varry from state to state, county to county).

The sale of fruits, vegtables, live plants, cut flowers, and craft items is usually all fine at farmers markets.

What IS regulated are the sales of raw milk, fresh eggs, meats, home baked items, home canned items, homemade butter, homemade cheese, and homemade jerkies and sausages. I've also never been to a farmers market that allows the sale of live animals directly to the customer (in the U.S.A.).

Some farmers markets are very free about what they allow to be sold there, including home baked items, cheeses, sausages, ect. Others will not allow those products no matter what.

Some of them even regulate the craft items you are allowed to sell. They don't want you running a yard sale of thrift store items from farmers markets, and they don't want the farmers to be overrun by homecrafters.

One of my local ones solved the problem beautifully. One one side of the river, is the farmers market, with all the food items. On the other side of the river is the artisans market, with all the gorgeous hand crafted items for sale. They require that the artist make the item (what-ever it is) themselves. To get from one market to the other, you go over a very nice wood people brige, which goes over the waterfalls...a lovely walk.

You still have to open certain state laws at farmers markets. So if your state has outlawed the sale of a certain plant as a noxious weed, you wouldn't be allowed to sell it.

Farmers usually have to pay a fee to have a booth at the farmers market also.

Also some farmers markets only allow the sale of items which the farmer actually grew themselves. In others, you will see exotic items, like bannanas for sale.

There really are no "set in stone" rules for farmers markets.

~Garnet

Homesteading/Farming over 20 years
Reply:usually you just need a permit from the municipality or whoever runs the market. the federal and state governments don't have the time to hand out permits to every single person that wants to sell produce in the farmers market

Hi bluewavegarden,

Probably the Japanese Garden of Portland, in Oregon. It has been called "the most beautiful and authentic Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan" by a Japanese ambassador.

How many points is the statute 19:9-1.7 - Construction Zone or 65 MPH Area - Use of median strip prohibited?

I got this ticket in the Garden State Parkway, and I'm not sure how many points is it. And also, do you think I'll be able to get a plea bargain for this?

How many points is the statute 19:9-1.7 - Construction Zone or 65 MPH Area - Use of median strip prohibited?
Can't answer that without knowing where the offence took place. Different states/provinces have different laws and therefore different point systems. Cheers!!

Can you garden in Arizona?

I am looking to buy land in Arizona to retire on. However I am not familiar growing veggies in the state and was wondering what areas support the best environment for sustainable gardening/farming?

Can you garden in Arizona?
Yes, you can garden in AZ. They have water irrigation ditches, and grow lots of things there. My mom lives outside Phoenix, and grows veggies, fruits, flowers, etc.

If, however, you want to buy land not directly in the desert, look for slightly higher elevations.
Reply:Buy some soil at the store and grow your plants in pots.

If i found an ancient treasure digging a hole in my garden?

Is the treasure mine? or is a state property?

If i found an ancient treasure digging a hole in my garden?
i think that it really depends on what is the kind of it, so if you found ancient materials it really belong to the government and you have got to be extremely careful when you are digging so it will not by useless, but any thing else i think it belongs to youuuu, congratulation!!!
Reply:You have to be really careful. There is always someone who will try to claim that the treasure is some type of national heritage, or belongs under some protected status.

From website below:

"recently the Supreme Court of Indiana affirmed a lower court decision that applied Indiana's archaeological protection law to private property, where a man wished to dig Native American artefacts on his own property although the state required him to seek a permit to do so".

I have heard that it is illegal to own gold bars. So, imagine you dug them up. You would have to find a way to melt them into something else. Also, if you found gold Spanish coins, someone would figure you got them in the ocean, and demand you show proof of where they came from.

If you really find something, DO YOUR RESEARCH. You can always ask anonymously.
Reply:It depends upon what kind of treasure... Is it a naturally occuring mineral deposit? or something someone has hidden from A long long time ago? Either way it is yours if you tell no one.....If its gold or silver minerals, IE from volcanic ages, it belongs to whoever has the mineral rights to that land.....(IF and only IF you make anyone aware of the find)
Reply:The founders keeps...thats always the rule of the jungle.BUT the chances are or the odds of you digging and found a national treasure in your back yard is 2000% nil.Keep on dreaming as ,dreams are for FREE.
Reply:U found a treasure in ur yard??? Yea it should be urs, because u found it. Just because its in state property dosent mean its theirs.
Reply:Belongs to the owner of the property.

What is a good life insurance company?

I have been looking into Garden State and Globe. Do any of you use them? Who do you use as your life insurance holder? I am going to look around Monday with local companies but I have been looking around online. It will be for myself, my husband, and your 1 year old daughter(only a small one in case something happened and it would be for burial).

What is a good life insurance company?
There are several top life insurance companies you can learn about and compare rates and plans online before you meet with an agent.

Some of the leading life insurance companies include Prudential, MetLife, Northwestern Mutual, ING, Banner Life and Mutual of Omaha.

First, consider how long you need life insurance, what goal you want to provide for, and how much coverage you need and can afford.

You can compare rates and plans online from a life insurance quote provider service and get free quotes from leading insurers.

Efinancial offers free life insurance quotes online. You just fill out one form and get up to 12 Instant Quotes from top-rated insurance companies. There is no risk and no obligation. Thata way you can find the most competitive rates before you meet with an insurance agent. To request your Free Quotes, visit https://www.efinancial.com/smartquoteefc...

You can request free quotes for life insurance for you, your husband, and your daughter.

When you compare rates make sure to consider the financial strength rating. You want an insurer rated at least "A" Excellent by AM Best for financial strength. Also, compare several quotes because rates can vary between companies.

Level term life insurance is common among young families because it can provide you with the maximum amount of protection at the lowest rates. Your rates and coverage amount is guaranteed to remain the same for up to 30 years. So, if you want life insurance to protect your daughter until she has graduated from college (for example) or until the mortgage is paid off, you may want this type of life insurance.

Here's How Term Life Insurance Works:

Term life insurance offers life insurance protection for a specific number of years. It builds no cash value, you pay only for the life insurance. That's why term life is less expensive than permanent life insurance. So you can afford more protection for your loved ones.

Term life insurance lasts for a specific number of years, from 1-30 years. The most common term is 10 or 20 years.

Term life insurance policies pay the beneficiary the face amount of the life insurance policy if the insured person dies during the term of the policy. For example, a 15-year term life policy with a face amount of $250,000 would pay $250,000 to the beneficiary if the insured died any time during those 15 years.

Usually, term life costs less than permanent life insurance.

At the end of the policy term, the insured is no longer insured, and a death benefit is no longer paid. Some term life insurance policies are renewable, or can be converted to permanent life insurance.

Term Life Insurance Has Three Standard Features:

Level

Usually, the annual premium for the policy paid by the insured stays the same each year. The face amount of the policy also stays the same. Level term life insurance policies can usually last up to 30 years.

Convertible

Before the end of the term for the policy, the life insurance policy owner may be able to convert the term life insurance into a permanent life insurance policy. The owner usually has a specific number of years during the term life insurance policy to convert the policy. The premiums usually increase for the permanent life insurance.

Renewable

Term life insurance policies that are renewable offer the owner the option of renewing the life insurance policy at the end of the policy term, up to a specific age limit (usually age 65 or 70).

For example, a 15 year policy may be renewed for another 15 years. If the policy is renewed, a medical exam may be required. The term life insurance premium will usually increase when the policy is renewed.

Also, for your daughter you may want to consider Globe Life for Children. Globe Life is rated "A+" Excellent by AM Best. They have more than 2.5 million policyholders. They have been offering life insurance since 1951. You can learn more about Globe Life for your daughter at http://www.term-life-online.com/life-ins...

I hope that helps! Best of luck to you and your family.

Have a Happy and Safe New Year!!!
Reply:I bought life insurance through Primerica Financial Services. They educated me about how money works, put me in a game plan to get out of debt, and help me get started saving for retirement. They even gave me a free financial needs analysis, which is really a great tool to have if you have financial goals in your life and you need a plan to achieve those goals.

You can check them out at http://www.primerica.com

In the meantime, you should educate yourself about the different types of life insurance out there by reading this blog: http://finance1o1.blogspot.com
Reply:Kind of like asking "What is a good car?". You get a hundred different opinions and it leaves you wondering what is the correct answer.

First off you are right to call a local agent. Call an independent agent who represents more than a single company. The agent that writes your home and auto insurance might be an independent agent. If you call an agent that represents just one company don't be surprised when they tell you the company they represent is the best company for you.

You will have this policy for 20 years or more so the financial stability of a company is an important consideration. Have the agent give you the A.M. Best rating or you can go on line to http://www3.ambest.com/ratings/default.a...

The other thing you will need to decide is the type of insurance you will purchase. Most people buy term insurance but that doesn't mean that a permanent policy might not be right for you considering the fact that you will want to keep the policy until your child completes her college education (20 years).

The key is to find a trusted adviser to give you objective advice.
Reply:Contact a local independent agent in you area. He/she should be experienced and have access to multiple companies to get you a competitive deal. Many companies give financial needs analysis programs to their agents. The agent should be able to find out your needs free of charge.

Which flowering plants and herbs are best to start growing in June, in Washington State?

the flowers and herbs would be outdoors on a deck where there is equal amounts of sun and shade throughout the day. I'm an amatuer gardener and I would love to have some kind of garden on my deck...Whether it be vegetables, fruit, herbs or flowers...I just don't know whats best to start in summertime. Thanks!

Which flowering plants and herbs are best to start growing in June, in Washington State?
'Equal amounts of sun and shade?" If you have midday or afternoon sun, pick sun-loving plants. Buy tomato starts, cucumbers, melons, peppers, lavender, rosemary. Plant new zealand spinach, sunflowers. Seattle Tilth has written THE best month-by-month garden guide for the region.

If you only have morning sun, you need shade plants. Impatiens, ferns, astilbe, etc.
Reply:Herbs are usually Mediterranean and LOVE lots of sun. They are great container subjects if you give them enough sun. Great ones are thyme, oregano, basil, tarragon, rosemary. Don't try to start these from seed as summer is brutal, so buy starter plants from your local garden center. Happy Gardening!!!!!
Reply:You didn't say east or west side. I'm west so my suggestions may not be useful. It has been so warm and dry this year it is good you will be in control of the water. I would set up a drip system for ease of watering if possible. If not be sure there is an easy route to a water supply. Test soil moisture by sticking your finger into the soil three inches; if dry ie warm, water; if wet %26amp; cool, don't water." If it gets into the 90's set up a mister.

This late you will want to buy starts at your local nursery. With your description of half day sun put any herbs with the afternoon sun. Herbs are generally very vigorous growers so they need to be sheared, snipped, or nibbled down regularly. To maintain this a mid-season fertilization with a fish/kelp emulsion or other organic liquid fertilizer like Earth Juice will keep them healthy and growing.

Cooking with lavender is common in Europe and the Mediterranean. In France it is used in Herb Provence. It is a member of the mint family and is close to rosemary, sage, and thyme. It is best used with fennel, oregano, rosemary, thyme, sage, and savory.

http://whatscookingamerica.net/lavender....

Rosemary %26amp; lavender are not going to winter over in pots on the deck as they are easily frost damaged being from the hot Mediterranean.

Tarragon, savory are easy in pots and they shear into nice mounds.

Sweet basil, oregano, marjoram, thyme and the flat leaf Italian parsley can perfectly grow together in a pot. Parsley and basil are annuals. Also watch the oregano and marjoram don't just overgrow the thyme since it is much slower. Oreganos, lemon balm, bee balm, borage and mints are herbs that are more vigorous in growth.

Chives, burnet, and rocket look and do well together.

Look for Salvia officinalis (Dwarf Sage)

Lavandula 'Blue Cushion', 'Thumbelina', (Dwarf English Lavender)

Rosmarinus officinalis 'Pinkie', 'Golden Rain' (Dwarf Rosemary)

Besides herbs consider Heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens) for the fragrant, blue flowers. Grow it with Chinese foxglove (Rehmannia elata) as the vertical element, combined with some variegated coleus for fill.

Cascade some cottage pinks (Dianthus) over the side of a container filled with a fuschia and perilla. These will not like afternoon sun only morning sun. If you are around Seattle go to Wells Medina for container plants. Their coleus, geranium, container selection is good and often very unusual.

If you have enough afternoon sun, at least 6 hours, consider a little rose as the center of a pot. This would be good for miniatures. Your could open up the range by growing a miniature climbing rose like 'Sequoia Ruby' on the trellis or railing. The vertical element in a pot could be a mini tree rose like 'Halo Sweetie' surrounded by a cascading Million Bells Calibracoa. I grow my patio roses in half barrels on casters. I drilled a hole in the bottom to ensure drainage since herbs and roses both dislike wet roots.

Two years ago I got a dark red Ruby Meidiland landscape rose that works well as a mini-cascader. It produces lavish clusters of very ruffled, double blossoms.

For a fragrant mini rose try one of the Scentsation series. These are small shrub types but are narrow so would look good with alyssum %26amp; thyme cascading over the rim and the midground filled with basil 'Oriental Breeze'.
Reply:I would reccomend some roses for the sunny parts of the deck. and for the shady parts would reccomend impatients they both bloom all season long . I would buy these already started . good luck .

With the IT industry invading the garden city Bangalore has been reduced to concrete jungle what is solution?

Instead of develpong the entire state the karnataka goverment is concentrating heavily in developing Bangalore city alone and consequently dumping all IT projects on Bangalore. The garden city is atracting worldwide attention and eveerybody wants to settle down at Bangalore, thus making it most expensive city. Our neighbour Tamilnadu has been wise enough to disburse the industry all ove the state. These can be disbursed to other areas like Mysore, Tumkur, mandya etc

The present woes of Bangalore citizens are due to this lopsided development of Bangalore by the Govt.

With the IT industry invading the garden city Bangalore has been reduced to concrete jungle what is solution?
well, you can kiss the tourism industry good bye in that city, and say hello to the urban sprawl and city nightmare of pollution and traffic jams. Since they are starting out they should quickly make laws to keep the city looking good, and plan on building most of the factories and parking lots power plants and stuff underground, and keep the land above a garden spot.

I'm growing lotus plants in my garden. Will they remain in hibernation when I bring them indoors for winter?

I presently have several lotus plants growing in 20-gal. tubs of water in my backyard. Last year, I carted all eight of them into my unheated garage for the winter months here in Michigan. Unfortunately, we had a cold snap that lasted about 3 weeks and all of the lotus plants froze to death--except two. It's not feasible to heat the interior of our attached garage, nor run 100-W heaters in all eight tubs of water. So this winter, I plan to bring the lotus plants that will not fit in the bottom of my small pond into our heated sunroom that's just off of the kitchen. My question is, will the lotuses remain in a hibernation state during this long time period indoors at a 68-70 degree temperature or do they even need to go into hibernation? Lotus plants in the Philippines or Thailand, for example, don't go into a hibernation phase...or do they?

What's a REAL way to keep squirrels out of the garden?

Not allowed to kill them - state law. Won't trap them and release them far away; a friend tried that, but gave up after two years, as they seemed to return - and bring "friends" with them. Help!

What's a REAL way to keep squirrels out of the garden?
Wildlife Repellents

Hot Pepper Repellent Recipe

- One chopped yellow onion

- One chopped Jalapeno pepper

- One tablespoon of Cayenne pepper

Boil ingredients for 20 minutes in two quarts of water. Let it cool and then strain it through cheesecloth. You can apply this with a pesticide sprayer or a spray bottle.

This will deter just about any animal from an area where it is applied. The only draw back is that it only lasts for three to five days.

The "Magic" Formula

- 8 oz. of any liquid dish soap

- 8 oz. of Castor Oil

- 1 gallon of water

Mix the Castor Oil and soap well. Be sure that it is mixed thoroughly then add it to one gallon of water and spray the entire area.

This is a simple and safe recipe and is supposed to work very well for many mammals.

"Scarecrow"

This is a motion-activated water "sprinkler." It shoots a 3-second blast of water when motion is sensed. It uses 2 cups of water each time it sprays and has a daylight sensor. It is manufactured by Contech Electronics. Some local area garden and hardware stores carry it.

This works especially well for squirrels, raccoons, deer, etc.
Reply:use dryer sheets on your garden
Reply:impossible to accomplish for squirrels are able to climb right up the side of a building, if the surface is rough...also they are able to leap from a structure to a tree or from tree.to tree; building to building...

i finally made friends with our bushy tailed rodents by talking to them and feeding them shelled peanuts. they tend to eat those rather than bury them. I would not lure them into our home for they can be quite destructive.

We do not kill slugs, snails, rodents, spiders, etc. whether inside or outside. My solution was to forge a harmonious relationship with nature so that we can co-exist in peace
Reply:Go to a hair styling place and ask the if you can have some of the hair off the floor. Then sprinkle the hair everywhere you don't want them. I do this in my garden because I have bunny's that love new dawn rose buds and this really works.

Reply:I have heard of burying pieces of hair from a hairbrush, in the garden.

Recently though, I used hotsauce and cayenne pepper sprinkled all through the garden and it seems to have worked.
Reply:in what state is it against the law to kill squirrels, I hunt and i have never heard of such a thing, it may be illegal to shoot a firearm but hey theres always slingshots. If it is truly illegal to just kill squirrels let me know so i dont get in trouble while out of town somewhere
Reply:try cats or a jack russell terrrier, that would do it
Reply:We have a Russian Laika (squirrel dog) Her name is Misha. This dog lives to run squirrels. Really! She is a squirrel treeing dog. The squirrels get very frustrated, pack there nuts and leave!
Reply:if you have cats, use their litter box filler around the outside edge of the garden, put up six foot poles and string the entire garden with chicken wire which you burried a foot in the ground . get mountain lion scent from a hunting store. hang bags of peanuts in your neighbors trees. my grandma used to urinate around the garden and put hair clippings around it too. get a greenhouse? buy your veggies.

Does anyone know where I could find Olive Garden's Principato Rosso wine in the United States?

I have always love this wine...I hope some shop here in the US is selling Principato Rosso wine. Anyone knows where i can buy it?

Does anyone know where I could find Olive Garden's Principato Rosso wine in the United States?
Well, first, you can buy it at any Olive Garden, but I'm not sure they'd let you leave the restaurant with it (it would likely depend on the local liquor laws).

I found this article here, http://www.winebusiness.com/html/Monthly... which implies that you can have Olive Garden distribute some to your local retailer, if they agree to sell it.

Another option is to contact Olive Garden's headquarters and ask for it to be shipped to you. Again, this depends on how much you're willing to spend at one time and your local liquor requirements.

Good luck.
Reply:Are you kidding? An Olive Garden would LOVE to sell you a bottle of it. Although not all servers are as good as others, they are trained to sell you a wine to compliment your entree. And yes, you can buy any wine they sell there by the bottle. Report Abuse

Reply:Did you check Beverage and More?
Reply:I agree, Bev Mo may have it, but I think Olive Garden may be willing to sell you some bottles if you ask them. If not, you could just try asking Olive Garden where they get their wine. There's also a site called Sips and Tips and they usually have a locator of brands of wines.

thank u!

Daughter n hubby r gonna start a garden-veggies-whats the best dirt/etc to mix in yard dirt?
Well... depends on whether you wanna do dig or not, and how much money are you willing to spend and how much time do you have.

I usually mix a couple of different materials in my garden soil

which includes: lucerne, come well rotted manure, lime if the garden soil is acidic, blood and bone, LOTS of peat moss or coir (fine coconut husk chips), gypsum if you have clay soil, and finally LOTS OF PREMIUM COMPOST!!!

Well if you couldn't be bothered adding so much different things in the garden, You could get away with adding lots of good compost, some well rotted manure or some blood %26amp; bone.

Another new product that has come to the market is the bio soil improver. These are manure with lost of benifical bacteria, you could try them but i believe adding the items i mentioned above is enough to improve your soil.

hope this helps!

good luck with your veggie garden!
Reply:Well composted soil would be the best overall. But if that's not available to you, a mix of topsoil, peat moss, and manure works well. And feed with a good plant food about every week or two.
Reply:It would really depend on what type of soil you already have.

I have heard great things about Miracle gro veggie and flower soil, though.

Why are homes and property taxes in Washington Township, NJ so inexpensive??

Is it a flood area or a really bad area? I am browsing through neighborhoods around the garden state parkway and noticed that homes are significantly cheap. . . and they are not ugly homes either. Can someone tell me where are nice areas around there? Any info would greatly help. We are planning to buy a house sometime next year so we are now starting to research good areas with good schools. Is there any way I can dig up a tomato plant in a garden to move in a pot and survive?

tomatoes already on vine moving to another state one and half hour away.

Is there any way I can dig up a tomato plant in a garden to move in a pot and survive?
Yes, just preserve as much of the rootball as possible.

Place it in an oversized pot to be sure. With tomatos on the vines, you cannot afford to lose any roots as those tomatos are taking lotas and lota of water.

I would suggest digging up an area about 1 foot in each direction around the plant.

Using a shovel, lever the soil up in the direction of the plant, this will loosen the soil without damaging the roots. Once the horizontal roots have been removed, slide the shovel undernieth to dig upt he vertical roots.

Then transplant into a pot, i would use a pot that is atleast 8-10 inches in diameter. Go to a nursery, Home Depot or lowes and ask them if they have any emply nursery pots. They always do. Home Depot usually leaves them in the back of the store near the trash, jsut drive around the back and you'll see them.

Water immediately and water every few days or when the soil is dry below 2-3 inches.

Also, do this as fast as possible as the onger the roots are exposed to air, the worse it is for the plant.
Reply:Try really hard to dig up a large enough rootball so the plant won't even know it's been lifted. That goes for the pot, too.
Reply:sure, just make sure you dig up enough dirt and roots with it.

Which state is known as India's Spice Garden?

Kerala is known as Spice Garden. Even though it is very small state, is full of small hills and hillocks and with greenery allover state and educated and hard working people and like spicy items for preparation and taste it. Even Samari hills around, you find Spices and mostly business people do Yatra to collect these Spice in that Spice Garden.

Which state is known as India's Spice Garden?
I believe that India's Spice Garden is not really located in a state but rather in the UK somewhere. India was the sixth member of the Spice Girls that got fat from over indulging in fatty foodstuffs. She was kicked out of the group and went on to grow her Spice Garden. Sporty Spice kept getting irritated when India would follow the line "Just tell me what I want, what I really, really want..." with the line, "I wanna steak, I wanna cake, I wanna eat until wind I break." It was a horrible day for the Brits.

Texas is the _____ state?

You know how theres like the garden state? Texas is the ___ state? Do you know what the one for Texas is?

Texas is the _____ state?
Lone Star State
Reply:THE NICKNAMES:

The Lone Star State: Perhaps one of the most recognized nicknames of any state, "The Lone Star State" comes from the symbolism of the star on the 1836 flag of the republic, the "National Standard of Texas." The single golden star on a blue background signified Texas as an independent republic and was a reminder of the state's struggle for independence from Mexico. The "Lone Star" can be found on the Texas State Flag and on the Texas State Seal today.

The Beef State: Perhaps more likely to be heard in connection with Nebraska, "The Beef State" is also one of the nicknames for Texas. This is attributed to the state's cattle ranching and beef production.

The Banner State: This nickname signifies a leading position, a front-runner, and probably originated from Texas' political influence based on her large population. Charles Ledyard Norton wrote, in Political Americanisms, "The state, county, town or other political sub-division that give the largest vote for a party candidate is termed 'the banner state.'..." Other states have been referred to as "Banner States," but this nickname's connection with Texas seems to have been more lasting.

The Blizzard State: Texas has been called "The Blizzard State" because of the frequent wind storms which sweep over the state. South Dakota is also referred to as "The Blizzard State."

The Jumbo State: In 1882, P.T. Barnum brought the largest African elephant ever kept in captivity from London to the United States to be used in his circus. The elephant's name was Jumbo. The elephant came to signify anything that was unusually large. Texas, the largest state in the Union, became known as "The Jumbo State" at that time.
Reply:I believe it's really The Republic of Texas... ;)

I'm looking for a cheap motorcycle with an older look, any suggestions?

I want something with a look like Zach Braff's character in Garden State, but I don't even know where to look. Can somebody give me a website or something and sells it for cheap? Thanks a lot.

I'm looking for a cheap motorcycle with an older look, any suggestions?
for an older look at a reasonable price, check out the bonneville line from triumph. they make several models with a 60's and 70's look to them for under 10g. or just look thru cycle trader online for older bikes. you can find older honda yamaha kawasaki along with other vintage bikes often at bargain prices.
Reply:If you are prepared to work on the bike Royal Enfield have that vintage look (be warned they really are hard work and not powerful even by the standards of the 1950s).
Reply:Buy an older used bike. It will look older and it will be cheap.

You may find it at olive garden or in cities with many Italians such as Yew York City
