Since my parents disliked Garden State and I relate to it, does that mean they dislike me?

After all, I don't think they understand me or listen to what I have to say and they like to think they're superior

btw i'm out of the house

Since my parents disliked Garden State and I relate to it, does that mean they dislike me?
Most adults don't like to step down. Some people think that when parents criticize something that the child [not that you're a child, I don't know how to put it, haha] but that they don't like them also. You can't assume the worst in thinking that's how it is, you could just have different dislikes, so try not to take it as dislike, but more so different opinions.
Reply:play the soundtrack, maybe they'll chill. and no, parents in gen hate everything you like. i was into andrea friggin' bocelli for a while, and mom hated that!
Reply:what does that have to do with your parents liking or disliking you? you're a human being not a hollywood film.
Reply:not nesisarily
Reply:no i dont think so but what about your dog? doesnt he love you? sometimes parents dont get it - i know u know what i mean. will u choose me for best answer? i really need the points. i love you!
Reply:Such a typical teenage question...

I hate to be mean, but this is really really immature. I know it feels like that, and I know I sound like a bull-shiter, but when you get older you'll understand. And even if they don't understand you or listen to you.. it's sad, but it won't determine your life. You can find other people to love you if your parents won't.
Reply:it's a movie. are you a movie? again? ok, then.
Reply:My grandmother had a phrase, "Don't borrow trouble".

That is exactly what you are doing. Don't automatically assume your folks dislike you. Grow up, and do not hang things on your folks (or others) unless they state it outright.

They probably have problems of their own, your mom may be going through menopause, your dad wondering if he will get downsized. Live and let live. Give your folks a break, and stop assuming.

Remember: When you assume, you make an %26lt;*ss%26gt; out of %26lt;u%26gt; and %26lt;me%26gt;, (A S S U M E)
Reply:so what's your problem? me thinks they are glad your out of the house, first they love you, not the garden state, if you think diff; that is to bad, second they hear you , and three they are superior they are your only parents so go for it ,
Reply:no.... what was the quastion agan?
Reply:Not at all!!! I'm sure your parents like some movies that you hate. That's just the way it is. If you can relate to a movie thats wonderful!! Maybe your parents just thought that some aspects of the movie weren't that great. It doesn't mean they dislike you though, I'm sure of it! I know from experience, sometimes parents are just hard to relate to because of the age difference. Its a whole different generation. I know what you mean though.
Reply:No I dont think so
Reply:Since I have never met you or your parents, I can't be 100% on this but, no.

Some view Garden State with a much different outlook than you do. They have seen, done and lived through things that you haven't. That may be why they don't like it.

There are points in the movie they may not fully understand. Since they don't fully understand anyone but themselves, they may not be able to fully relate.

Even if you look at things from their point of view, there's still a major gap in relating certain things, like music, movies, ethics, politics....

And, sometimes a movie is just a movie.
Reply:If you ask them and it would hurt you more to do that. Then i would say try to ignore it.
Reply:Not at all. The movie sucked, you don't.
Reply:They are like that because they love you they just ignore it and they want to no the truth ,but overall do what you want and what you think is right even if go to them and tell them how you feel.
