Why is New Jersey known as the Garden State when it has the most toxic waste of any US state?
Because they couldn't fit "Oil and Petrochemical Refinary State" on a license plate.
Reply:COME ON!, New Jersey is a fine state. The hugh industrial plants are concentrated to the area near Newark and NYC close to the meadowlands. The "Garden" comes from the agriculture in Southern New Jersey and the area known as the Pine barrens. I've lived in several other states including California and florida and NJ blows them away in terms of infrastructure and education. New Jersey's only draw back are high taxes and the high price of auto insurance.
Reply:Girl you are very Educated and know the obvious things in life it seems well If you goto State Nicknames its will tell you every state has a nickname not by a mistake but for a reason good point though I love you very much. Jesus Says we should love one another so hey why not.
Reply:I suppose there is irony here...

New Jersey is a beautiful state except for the industrialized urban cities in the northeastern section of the state.

What is troublesome is that New Jersey has more environmental regulations and laws than any other state in the union (with the exception of California). For years, New Jersey has been looking for better sites to dispose of toxic waste and there are no takers. Quelle surprix! :-)

Despite the addition of staff to the state Department of Environmental Protection agency, there are incredible and frequent violations that never get reported or punished.

We get the government we deserve, I suppose.
Reply:Ouch! Maybe 'Garden State' is an ideal that the state govt wants to get to?! :D
Reply:Dunno, but plants and trees manage to survive somehow...
